UI copy review in visual context

Review UI copy where people actually encounter it

Inspect labels and messages beside the controls they explain, then agree on accurate wording before it becomes an implementation task.

  • ✓Keep the surrounding action visible
  • ✓Confirm exact text and intended meaning
  • ✓Validate sensitive wording with its owner

Connect the wording to the user's next decision

Context-aware copy findings

Review the message alongside the decision it supports instead of treating every word as an isolated editorial problem.

Explicit wording approval

Give product and content owners a defined consequence and text proposal to validate before the change reaches engineering.

A visible implementation check

Compare the updated screen with the approved wording and inspect whether the actual action still matches the message.

Review meaning and layout together

A button label can read well in a document and become unclear beside the wrong message or action. Screenshot review puts copy back into its visible context: surrounding controls, selected state, available space, and the next decision a user needs to make. Choose a bounded flow or screen rather than asking for a general rewrite. Identify the audience and intended action before deciding whether the wording is appropriate.

Capture complete, safe text states

Take screenshots that show the relevant label or message with enough surrounding interface to interpret it. Include an error, success, or empty state when that is the subject of review. Use representative sample data without exposing private records. Bring the images into Retick and inspect the proposed findings. If an image is blurred, truncated, or ambiguous, obtain a clearer capture and confirm the exact wording manually rather than trusting an uncertain reading as the basis for a copy change.

Separate copy decisions from behavior claims

An unclear warning is not proof that the underlying operation behaves incorrectly. Ask the product owner what the action actually does and the content owner how that consequence should be communicated. For sensitive operations, involve the appropriate legal, security, or domain reviewer where needed. A screenshot review can locate an ambiguity or clipped string, but it does not certify that replacement language is accurate, compliant, or appropriate for every supported locale.

Example issue and acceptance criteria

A useful issue could be Remove member confirmation does not explain whether access ends immediately. Capture the warning and its action labels. Have the responsible owners confirm the actual access behavior and approve the replacement text. Acceptance criteria might require the warning to state the approved consequence, the destructive action label to match the operation, and the full message to remain readable at the reported viewport. Review the wording before exporting the selected issue to Trello; a suggested rewrite is not itself content approval.

Check the copy in the implemented flow

After the change, inspect the relevant state again and perform the action with safe test data if appropriate. Confirm that the displayed text matches the approved wording and that the resulting behavior does not contradict it. Check additional locales and accessibility behavior through your normal processes rather than inferring them from one English screenshot. Retick helps turn captured UI concerns into reviewable findings, while human content judgment and direct product testing establish whether the message is accurate and useful.
