Careful use of research media

Keep observed usability evidence distinct from interpretation

Use permitted interface evidence without turning an individual observation into an unsupported population claim.

A grounded path from observation to work

Evidence and interpretation

Distinguish what a participant did or said from the explanation a reviewer proposes for that behavior.

Research-owned conclusions

Retain study context and human synthesis rather than treating extracted findings as validated research outcomes.

Approved implementation scope

Turn a finding into work only after the responsible owners decide what change the evidence supports.

Establish permission and research context

Before using research media in another tool, confirm that consent and your organization's policies permit that use. Remove identifying or sensitive information where required before upload. Define the task and conditions the participant encountered. A media-review workflow is not a substitute for research consent, retention controls, or the study record that explains how the observation was collected.

Review a bounded interface moment

Use an authorized recording segment or a permitted screenshot that shows the relevant state. For a participant who hesitates at an archive action, preserve what was visible and what they actually said without presenting hesitation as proof of a universal usability defect. Inspect Retick's proposed findings against the media and correct interpretations that exceed the supplied evidence.

Separate an observation from an implementation decision

A useful record can say that the archive label left the next state unclear in this session. Product and research still need to decide whether the response should be different wording, another study, or no change. If an implementation outcome is approved, define the label and confirmation behavior someone can check. Export selected reviewed work to Trello or download a file for a manual handoff.

Retain the limits of the evidence

Keep the finding connected to your own research record and state whether other sessions support it. Do not infer frequency, statistical significance, or commercial impact from a single capture. Retick analyzes supplied media; it does not recruit participants, validate study design, establish consent, or replace qualitative synthesis. Have the responsible researcher review the interpretation before it becomes an accepted product requirement.

Review a permitted usability observation

Preserve both context and the limits of the evidence.
