Review of first-run product states

Review whether a first-run screen explains the next action

Make a first-run review specific about the user's task, existing setup, and the next understandable action.

Clearer next-step feedback

A defined first task

Review the action the screen is intended to support instead of expecting one empty state to explain everything.

State-aware findings

Distinguish an intentionally empty account from a real failure to create or display the first item.

Honest impact claims

Use separate research and measurement for activation outcomes rather than inferring them from a review capture.

Choose one first-run task

An empty workspace can ask users to create a project, invite colleagues, or import data. Decide which action the reviewed state should support before judging its design. Use a safe new test account and name any setup already completed. A reviewer who knows the product may overlook ambiguity that a new user encounters, so keep that perspective limit explicit.

Capture the empty state and outcome

Record the initial screen, chosen action, and visible result, or use a screenshot for a static copy concern. Bring the supported media into Retick and inspect the proposed findings. An absent project list is not a defect in a genuinely empty account. Check whether the concern is unclear guidance, a failed action, or a request for functionality the product does not provide.

Define a useful next-step criterion

A focused issue might require the primary action to explain that it creates the first project and show where the result appears. Have product and content owners approve the intended wording. Keep a new request for guided tutorials separate from that correction. Review selected findings before exporting to Trello or downloading a file for your normal implementation handoff.

Verify with the right evidence

After a change, repeat the fresh-account scenario and inspect the accepted outcome. Use appropriate user research and product measurement if you need to assess comprehension or activation. Retick does not recruit new users, execute usability studies, calculate activation improvements, or guarantee conversion. Media review can help describe a concern and its intended correction without proving the broader effect on onboarding performance.
