Visual review for charts and dashboards
Review dashboard presentation without confusing it with data validation
Make chart labels, filters, and visual states easier to review while keeping calculation accuracy and metric definitions under separate domain validation.
- ✓Define the reading task and audience
- ✓Capture units, filters, and relevant states
- ✓Keep numerical accuracy separate from presentation

Make dashboard feedback precise and appropriately bounded
More specific chart findings
Identify the label, state, or selected filter that makes a reading task difficult rather than requesting a general dashboard redesign.
A useful domain-review boundary
Ask the metric owner to confirm units and meaning, and reserve calculation claims for comparison with a trusted data source.
Clear UI acceptance criteria
Describe the approved presentation outcome while keeping data validation, accessibility testing, and execution coverage explicit and separate.
Start with the question the dashboard should answer
A dashboard review needs a reading task, such as comparing activity across a selected period or identifying an exceptional category. Name the audience and the decision the view is intended to support. Then inspect whether labels, units, legends, and selected filters make that task understandable. Avoid judging a chart only by its appearance or declaring the metric accurate because the visualization looks internally consistent.
Capture the important data states safely
Use screenshots for a stable chart or a recording for filter changes, tooltips, loading, and empty states. Capture representative sample data instead of confidential operational records, then bring the media into Retick. Note the selected date range, timezone assumptions, units, and relevant filters manually where they matter. If the review concerns an interactive value, make sure the capture actually shows it; an unseen tooltip or hidden legend cannot support a precise visual finding.
Inspect findings with a domain reviewer
Review the proposed issues against the visible interface and ask a person familiar with the metric to confirm the terminology. A clipped axis label is a presentation concern. A value that appears inconsistent may require a separate comparison with a trusted source. Keep these investigations separate and avoid turning an unclear chart into an unsupported claim about the data pipeline. Retick's media review does not establish the correctness of aggregation, permissions, or business definitions behind the displayed result.
Example issue and acceptance criteria
A useful issue could be Revenue chart omits currency from the selected-period view. Include the chart, current range, legend, and relevant surrounding labels. Have the domain owner confirm the intended currency and whether conversion or mixed-currency data is involved. Acceptance criteria might require an approved unit label to remain visible and consistent with the displayed metric across the reviewed states. Verify numerical correctness separately. Review the issue and export the approved UI work to the connected Trello destination when appropriate.
Recheck presentation and calculations independently
After implementation, inspect the updated chart under the reported range, empty results, and other relevant states your team selects. Confirm that labels remain readable and filters communicate their current selection. Use trusted queries or other approved data checks for numerical validation, and test keyboard and assistive technology behavior directly where relevant. Retick helps structure dashboard UI observations from captured media; it does not run the dashboard, audit the warehouse, or certify accessibility or metric accuracy from a screenshot.
Capture the chart state your team needs to discuss
Review the presentation and identify which claims need separate data evidence.
